WHO FORGOT TO PAY THE LIGHT BILL!?!?!?!?!?!?
The Dark Room Collective was founded in Boston in 1988. It was founded by a group of African American poets. Though it originated as a reading series, the purpose of the Darkroom Collective soon became to form a group of established and emerging African American writers. Strange writes that "it was the sustaining practice of writing in community just as much as the activism of building a community-based reading series for writers of color that kept us engaged in collectivity". Famous Poets: Major Jackson, Natasha Trethewey, Kevin Young, as well as the 2 original leaders of the DRC, Thomas Sayers Ellis and Sharan Strange.
Breakdown...
This poem was so hard to understand. It was extremely hard to read. I Figured out after like a hour that you aren't supposed to read when it says stop. But anyway, to me, this poem was about how success had made the poet lose contact with a person he was once friends with. He started off by saying he hasn't seen the person in a while, and how he loved the last show. That triggered that the poets friend had become successful in some form of entertainment, but that success had came with the consequence of them losing contact with one another. Then the poet said "ABOVE A STAIR (STOP) NOT SURE HOW YOU REACHED (STOP) YOU ALWAYS WERE A CLIMBER (STOP) ". Those lines told me that his old friend had made it to the top of whatever they were doing, meaning that they were EXTREMLEY successful. He ended the telegraph by asking his old friend to come down and see us sometimes, which supports my claim on how they lost contact with each other, and also shows in a way both have grown apart.
